Media Pack Evalutation

The media pack also known as a press pack contains information collected by market research to inform their audience what sorts of readers are engaged with their magazine and also used for promotional uses.

I looked at Vibe magazines press pack, as they are a similar type of magazine to mine, meaning they specify in the same genres as the magazine I am creating. I found that their audience is 55% males and therefore 45% females. This means that over half of their readers are males and therefore they’re more likely to cater to the interests of the male audience rather than the female. An example of this would be having the female models on the front cover and they have a lack of clothing on. This is a technique used to attract the male audience. Although, having said that according to my research there are males that are on the front cover that will attract the male audience by having a Rap artist that has more male fans than female.

The majority of readers of Vibe magazine, age ranges 18 to over 35 years old. This can be helpful for companies that want to advertise within the magazine because they know what sort of products or services will sell well with the age group.

The media kit contains prices for the future readers that are maybe looking to subscribe to Vibe magazine and the price for a single magazine. This informs the audience with knowledge that they potentially did not already know.

There is an editorials calendar in the media kit used by publishers to control the publications of content. It also has the rates for adverting in the magazine and this enables companies to carry out research and compare prices with other magazine to help them decided what magazine they would like to advertise in and where.
